Dial-up Set Up: Windows 2000


Microsoft® Windows® 2000

Follow the steps below to configure dial-up connection in Microsoft® Windows® 2000.


1. Right-click the [My Network Places] icon on your desk-top and choose "Properties."

2. Double-click the [Make New Connection] icon.

3. Network Connection Wizard starts. Click the [Next] button.

4. Choose "Dial-up to the Internet" and click the [Next] button.

5. Select "I want to set up my Internet Connection manually, or I want to connect through a local area network (LAN)" to access to JapanNet and click the [Next] button.

6. Select "I connect through a phone line and a modem" and click the [Next] button.

7. [Installation of new modem Wizard] appears in case that the first modem is installed or plural modems are already installed. Set up configuration of the modem as the message in the wizard. (Ask the details to PC or Modem Maker.) Click the [Finish] button.
* The wizard does not appear in case that a modem has already been installed. See the next instruction.

8. Type your nearest JapanNet access number in the [Area code] box and the [Telephone number] box. Remember to check with your local telephone company to make sure that the number you choose is a local toll call.

9. Click the [Advanced...] button and select the [Connection] tag.

10. Type in following information in appropriate boxes in the [Connection] tag and then click the [OK] button. It let you return to the [Internet Connection Wizard]. Click the [Next] button.

DNS server address Always use the following
Primary DNS Server 209.137.136.3
Alternate DNS Server 209.137.146.2

11. Type in following information and then click the [Next] button.

User name (Your PPP account name)
EX.) jn/pb000000
Password (Your PPP account password)

12. Type "JapanNet" or whatever you like to name for this connection in the [Connection name] box. Click the [Next] button.

13. Choose "No" and click the [Next] button.
*** If you want to set up your e-mail account here, please refer to this page.

14. The setting will be finished at the "Completing the Internet Connection Wizard". Uncheck the check-box next to "To connect to the Internet immediately, select this box and them click Finish" and click the [Finish] button.

15. Inside [Network and Dial-up Connections] folder, new connection icon has created. Double-click the icon you have just created.

16. Click the [Dial] button.

17. When you can connect to JapanNet's access point, the following dialog is coming up. Just click the [OK] button to dismiss this dialog and enjoy your Internet life!
