Dial-up Set Up: Windows® XP


Microsoft® Windows® XP

Follow the steps below to configure the Internet connection in Microsoft® Windows® XP.


1. Click the [Start] button and select [Control Panel].

2. Double-click [Network and Internet Connections].

3. Click [Network Connections].

4. Choose "Create a new connection" from the [Network Tasks] column.

5. [New Connection Wizard] starts. Click the [Next] button.

6. Choose "Connect to the Internet" (default) and click the [Next] button.

7. Choose "Set up my connection manually" and click the [Next] button.

8. Choose "Connect using a dial-up modem" (default) and click the [Next] button.

9. In the ISP Name field, type JapanNet and click the [Next] button.

10. In the Phone number field, type JapanNet's access number and click the [Next] button.

11. Type following information in each fields and click the [Next] button.

Service Provider JapanNet
User name (Your PPP Account Name)
ex.) jn/pb000000
Password (Your PPP Password)
Confirm password (Your PPP Password)
Use this account name and password when anyone connects to the Internet from this computer Uncheck (Optional)
Make this the default Internet connection Uncheck (Optional)
Turn on Internet Connection Firewall for this connection Uncheck (Optional)

12. Check the box next to "Add a shortcut to this connection to my desktop" if you want to have a shortcut icon on your desktop (Optional) and click the [Finish] button.

13. [Connect to JapanNet] dialog is coming up (If it's not, right-click on JapanNet icon and choose [Properties]). Click the [Properties] button.

14. Within [General] tag - [Phone number], click the box next to "Use dialing rules" and type the are code for JapanNet's access number; and then click on the [Networking] tag.

15. Click the [Settings] button.

16. Uncheck the boxes next to "Enable LCP extensions" and "Enable software compression" and click the [OK] button.

17. Select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) in the This connection uses the following items list and click the [Properties] button.

18. Select "Use the following DNS server addresses" and type the following IP address in both the [Preferred DNS server] and the [Alternate DNS server] fields; and then click the [OK] button.

Preferred DNS server 209.137.136.3
Alternate DNS server 209.137.146.2

19. Click the [Dial] button to connect to JapanNet.
